I was so excited when Kim from The TomKat Studio asked me to participate in her Holiday Gift Guide by designing gift tags. I knew the other designers would create darling red and green tags and I wanted to be a little bit different. So, I came up with the PINK and SPARKLY gift tags! And the best news of all is that you can download these tags for FREE at the bottom of the post. </div>

Here are a couple tips for wrapping up your holiday gifts with style. <b>First</b>, say goodbye to that cheap drugstore ribbon. Buy a large spool of double faced satin and tie a really beautiful bow. I promise that everyone will notice. If you can only splurge on one thing, go for the good stuff when it comes to ribbon. <b>Second</b>,<b> </b>use one of our gorgeous gift tags to wow your guests (duh!) <b>Third</b>, use brown kraft paper to wrap your gift. It looks so modern and cool when it set against a luxurious ribbon and tag, plus it's dirt cheap. <b>Last</b>, buy some edgy leaves or flowers at a floral supply shop or Michaels like the gold leaf that we used, one bunch had 8 leaves and only cost about $2. </div>

Halloween is hands down my favorite holiday. I LOVE pumpkins! The weirder the better =) But sometimes I feel like this holiday is either too cutesy or too spooky, so I wanted to create the perfect party for both kids AND adults.</div>

Keep reading to see our feature on HWTM from last fall. Since I might be the worst blogger on the planet, I'm just posting these pics, a YEAR later. Better late than never :) Plus, I have this printable collection on sale through the end of September for only 6 bucks! Yep, you read that right, just $6!</div>

The <strong>black, gray and rusty orange colors</strong> of this vintage-rustic style “<span style="color: #db5634;"><strong>Sweet and Spooky” Halloween</strong></span> features a refreshing variation on the traditional Halloween palette and feels decidedly grown up, yet still appropriate for pint-sized guests.</div>

<div style="color: #8b643f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.6em; margin-bottom: 14px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
I decided to incorporate mature colors including black, gray and a rusty orange along with glittery skeletons, spiders and bats. These elements made the party grown up without being too spooky for the kids.<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal;"></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 1.6em; margin-bottom: 14px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
To get the kids excited about the party, I made very juvenile desserts including pumpkin whoopie pies, pumpkin cake pops using tree branches, ghost fondant cupcakes, candy corn cupcakes and layered pumpkin pies in mason jars. Our friends kids had such a blast devouring all of the desserts in just a couple hours. =)</div>
<div style="line-height: 1.6em; margin-bottom: 14px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
Most importantly, this party was created for less than $100. By baking all of these simple desserts on my own and borrowing some serving pieces from fabulous friends (like Brittany of <strong><a href="http://mostlikelylate.blogspot.com/" style="border-bottom-style: none; border-color: initial; border-left-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-width: initial; color: #1bc4f0; outline-color: initial; outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Most Likely Late</a></strong>. I was able to pull it all together on the cheap. My biggest purchase was the table I displayed my desserts on which I found at the Salvation Army for $15 and spray painted it to match the party. I used white frames from my daughter’s room and stole the antlers from my living room. Peak around your house, you’ll be amazed at what you find that matches your party theme! Plus, my existing Halloween decorations, mostly from Home Goods, were just perfect to use. And always, remember to have fun with your theme. I just loved the label used for the ghost fondant cupcakes that says, ‘Ghostess with the Mostess’, it’s a perfect homage to my favorite party blog.</div>

This week I had an amazing photography lesson with Nicole Benitez of <a href="http://www.nicolebenitezphotographyblog.com/">Nicole Benitez Photography</a>. I set up four collections to get new pics and learned so much from sweet Nicole. If you happen to be in San Diego and want to learn how to take gorgeous pics, I would HIGHLY recommend hiring her for a mentor session.<br />
<br />
The four collections that I shot are the train party, ahoy, it's a boy baby shower, superhero and vintage airplane. They will be listed in the shoppe over the next couple of weeks but here are some sneak peaks.<br />

Yes, I am referring to my feet and my new Missoni flats. A bit ridiculous I know, but I've been dreaming about these babies for quite awhile now and we almost didn't connect. I arrived at my Target at about 8:20 am and the shelves were bare. I was crushed. Until, I saw an employee carrying out a stack of shoe boxes to the hoards of women standing around anxiously awaiting more loot. Everyone stood there a little frozen when he set them down, but not me. I dashed towards the shelves and snagged the box not knowing what size they were. Alas, they were a size 8. Hallelujah! I also got some goodies for the girls but missed out on the dress and mugs I was dreaming of. Oh well!<br />

Quinne's Rainbow Hot Air Balloon Party was featured on <a href="http://www.hostessblog.com/2011/09/rainbow-hot-air-balloon-birthday-party/">Hostess with the Mostess</a> yesterday (yay!) It's been so tough holding back these pics from you guys. I'll be going into more detail about the party over the next couple weeks but here is the full post from HWTM. Hope you love it! This party cost me many sleepless nights and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Most importantly, the kids had a blast!<br />

<h3><span style="color: #da1a29;"><b>PARTY DETAILS</b></span>, as told by <b><a href="http://www.paigesofstyle.com/" target="_blank" title="Paiges of Style"><b>Paige</b></a></b>…</h3><span style="color: white;">::</span><br />
“When I started thinking about Quinne’s first birthday, I knew I wanted it to be fun, colorful and be a play on the fact that her first year “had flown by.” I have two girls 16 months apart so Quinne’s first year had been quite a roller coaster!<br />
I love the rainbow color palette but I wanted to incorporate hot pink since she is, after all, a girl! <b>I had so much fun mixing the vintage hot air balloon with more modern chevron stripes and rustic burlap.</b><br />
<span style="color: #da1a29;"><b>INVITATION</b></span><br />
I think the invitation is so important and sets the stage for the event. I wanted to include a photo of Quinne but didn’t want it on the invite so I used a photo of her on the envelope liner, our friends loved it!<a href="http://www.paigesofstyle.com/2011/06/diy-photo-envelope-liner-tutorial.html" target="_blank"><b> See the tutorial here.</b></a><br />
<b>GREETING THE GUESTS</b><br />
To greet the guests, my husband and his mom made a rainbow balloon arch using <a href="http://www.designmom.com/2011/05/balloon-banner-diy" target="_blank" title="Balloon Arch Tutorial"><b>a tutorial found on Design Mom</b></a>. Next, the kids got to pick a party hat with their favorite trim and sign Quinne’s hot air balloon book. Just like <a href="http://www.hostessblog.com/2011/02/real-parties-curious-charleys-monkey-party/" target="_blank" title="Monkey Birthday
Party - Girl"><b>Charley’s monkey party</b></a>, I had our guests sign a children’s book that matches the theme of the party and asked them to predict what Quinne will be when she grows up!<br />
<span style="color: #da1a29;"><b>DESSERT TABLE & TREATS</b></span><br />
I decided to focus mostly on the dessert table. The <b>colorful chandelier</b> was the starting point and I knew it needed to be grounded with a burlap background. I made both of the exposed layer cakes over a few days before the party… talk about lots of food coloring! Quinne absolutely loved her cake, she even took a break from chowing down <b>to give it a hug</b> – so sweet! (<i>And don’t worry, she didn’t eat the whole thing.</i>) I topped the cake with a darling fondant hot air balloon from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/modernluxeevents" target="_blank" title="Modern Luxe
Events"><b>Modern Luxe Events</b></a>.<br />
The #1 favorite of our guests were the <b>hot air balloon cake pops</b>. <b>Kris</b> with <a href="http://www.facebook.com/kcreativecakepops" target="_blank" title="K Creative Cake Pops"><b>kCreative Cake Pops</b></a> exceeded my expectations with the detail on these cake pops. I couldn’t believe the gorgeous colors were and how much they really looked like hot air balloons! Another one of my favorite desserts on the table were the beautiful macaron towers by <a href="http://www.baked.etsy.com/" target="_blank" title="Baked on etsy"><b>Baked</b></a>. <b>Nanci</b> made my vision come to life with the colorful macarons and each color was a different flavor – yum! Nanci also made the gorgeous sugar cookies and red velvet cupcakes, were such a hit. I made the <b>rainbow jello</b> in mason jars (again, over the course of a few days) and used twine to tie colorful mini spoons on the jars.<br />
<span style="color: #da1a29;"><b>FOOD</b></span><br />
To take the stress of prepping & serving food during the party, I sent my husband out to pick up burgers and fries from <b>In N Out Burger</b> just before the party started. Our guests LOVED it and it was inexpensive and so easy! Of course, I have to label and repackage everything, so I bought striped candy bags from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/InTheClear" target="_blank" title="In The Clear"><b>In the Clear</b></a> to rewrap the burgers and made paper cones to display the fries in. I displayed the food and drinks on an old door I found on the street in my neighborhood (!) and added the concessions stand banner. <b>I spent about $8 to make the rainbow fabric garland that hung behind the food.</b> I love a custom label so I wrapped the water bottles in custom labels that I sell in <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/paigesofstyle" target="_blank" title="Paiges of Style"><b>my etsy shoppe</b></a>.<br />
<span style="color: #da1a29;"><b>TABLES</b></span><br />
We set up kids-height tables for the kids to eat at and lined the tables with homemade hot air balloons. I spray painted strawberry baskets brown and used twine to tie a helium filled balloon to the basket.<br />
<span style="color: #da1a29;"><b>ACTIVITIES</b></span><br />
For activities, we hired a family friend who is a professional balloon twister (<i>aka makes balloon animals</i>) at Downtown Disney. The kids LOVED him and all waited in line for their turn. I also had a custom hot air balloon pinata made by <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/whack" target="_blank" title="Whack"><b>Whack</b></a>. Now it hangs in our playroom and looks so fun! One of my best friends painted the kids faces and we set up our little bounce house. I designed custom coloring pages for the kids. One of my favorite things at the party was the crayons I separated and placed into tomato paste cans with custom labels.<br />
<span style="color: #da1a29;"><b>CLOTHES</b></span><br />
I’ve always got to color coordinate our clothes for the party. I spotted this fabric and knew it was absolutely perfect for our party. I sewed each girl a dress (<i>the morning of the party – crazy I know!</i>) and had custom bloomers made for Quinne by <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/BloominBloomers" target="_blank" title="Blooming Bloomers"><b>BloominBloomers</b></a>. And my brave husband sported a matching necktie while I pinned on a flower in the same fabric.”<br />

Luckily, I actually really like the neutral color the whole house was painted so my hubby dodged the painting bullet. Until, I saw this photo this past weekend...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6QUbg5SBy0LDvlyGpadK8kS7l3fdYaJOioVsgEr8BwDRmZUY4osoex7iDNQrRgxlAxTUJbMCyxxG25QJNa1I8cuOiHk7s6WUY-z7_z2fM7FM3-bsqY2oLty0U2M0ZDJg0SmjSTODp9kE/s1600/26288935_mAcSqbgr_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="853.33" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6QUbg5SBy0LDvlyGpadK8kS7l3fdYaJOioVsgEr8BwDRmZUY4osoex7iDNQrRgxlAxTUJbMCyxxG25QJNa1I8cuOiHk7s6WUY-z7_z2fM7FM3-bsqY2oLty0U2M0ZDJg0SmjSTODp9kE/s640/26288935_mAcSqbgr_c.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">The kitchen of Sara Tuttle, love!</div><br />
And now I'm OBSESSED with painting our master bedroom navy blue. I painted two samples on the wall last night, and I<i> think</i> I know which one I'm going to use but I want your opinion on which one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid9FoiJ1Heh1aE1Kn45vYKu8hALWiKpdE8fSChFWIjwT4nA8V5VUJYbtxlDIyf7nQoF7FxlesVk4LF8RUfaKnNC1k6yLDWCgbR4ocFEyc6w8h4SfHJBU5cRS69JAMNfdo06969uxXKMXk/s1600/IMG_5862.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid9FoiJ1Heh1aE1Kn45vYKu8hALWiKpdE8fSChFWIjwT4nA8V5VUJYbtxlDIyf7nQoF7FxlesVk4LF8RUfaKnNC1k6yLDWCgbR4ocFEyc6w8h4SfHJBU5cRS69JAMNfdo06969uxXKMXk/s1600/IMG_5862.jpg" /></a></div><br />
Alright so what do you think? Old Navy or Bold Blue? I definitely want it to be a deep, rich navy but I don't want it to ever get confused for black. Here are a couple more shots.<br />
<br />

I have a darling little one year {and a two year old, yikes} and it's time to share her birthday party invitation. This is DEFINITELY my most favorite invitation I have ever designed.<br />
<br />
I just listed this in my shoppe {after getting several requests for it} and it is available <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/75628327/hot-air-balloon-birthday-invitation">here</a> for $18 for the printable file. Did you know I also offer printing? In fact, I can also line your envelopes with your own photo. I've got 45 envelopes to line for a client today.<br />

</span></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I'm so excited to share the tutorial for the photo envelope liner. And, I'm thrilled to reveal that I am a new contributing writer over on the Birthday Girl <a href="http://www.birthdaygirlblog.com/">blog</a>. I've been a longtime follower of Becca's blog so it was such an honor to have her ask me join the team. This tutorial was the first one that I shared on her blog and make sure to stay tuned for more party related tutorials. </span></div><div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />

Supermoms do rule!!! Especially one seriously supermom... Miss Sarah Crawford of <a href="http://www.lilhootparties.com/">Lil Hoot</a>. I've blogged about Sarah before when I shared her insanely creative Fun-do party {that was also featured on Amy Atlas <a href="http://blog.amyatlas.com/2011/03/fun-fondue-guest-feature/">here</a>}. Not only is this lady creative, witty and fun but she is so so kind. If she didn't live clear across the country, I think we might be constantly joined at the hip!<br />
<br />
Alright back to the fabulous party Sarah threw for her nephew Mac's second birthday... <br />
<br />
Sarah asked me to create the party printables with a fresh color palette and a modern vibe and I think she got what she asked for. I finally listed the entire superhero collection in my etsy shoppe, they are available a la carte or as a package. Visit my etsy shoppe <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/paigesofstyle">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I'll let the gorgeous photos do the talking...<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If any of you have been wondering why I've been MIA, it's because of this little darling's 1st birthday party. It's hard for me to even believe that my baby is turning one next week. I cried last year when Charley turned one and I have a feeling some tears just might be shed this year too. But on a happier note, I get to plan a party!!!<br />
<br />
I decided to go with a hot air balloon theme for Q's party and use a crazy rainbow + hot pink color palette. Can't wait to share the rest of the details with you in a couple weeks. But for now, here is a peak at the invitations and envelopes that just went out in the mail. I think this invitation might be my favorite thing I've ever designed...<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">Alright, so let me back up a little bit. A few months ago when I was spoiling myself and getting ready to order new window treatments for my living room and dining room, I decided I wanted to go with a yellow and white fabric for the panels. I knew the yellow had to be vibrant and bold since I'm not really a fan of buttery yellow. I had all but decided that I was going to order the Dwell fabric pictured above (exactly like the Crate and Barrel panels) to have custom panels sewed BUT I just wasn't feeling confident in my decision. So, the search began for a yellow and white ikat. Luckily, good ole Duralee had me covered and I fell in love as soon as I saw this print. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">So, now I'm asking you guys, which one do you like best? The one I decided to go with or the one that Crate and Barrel is now selling. Be honest!!!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Here are a couple more shots of each:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

<div style="color: #20124d;">I made this gorgeous and incredibly easy raspberry and lemon trifle for the Easter dinner with our family. A good friend passed this recipe along to me a few years ago and it's now my go-to spring and summer dessert when I have to feed a crowd. Over the years, as the girls have entered our lives, I've made some shortcuts. But seeing as <i>everyone</i> cleaned their plates last night, I would have to say the taste is just as good as the from scratch version. And it took me no more than 15 minutes to make this beautiful dessert start to finish, can't beat that!</div><div style="color: #20124d;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #20124d;"><b>Recipe </b>(Adapted from Bon Apetit <a href="http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Raspberry-Lemon-Trifle-105181">here</a>)</div><div style="color: #20124d;">1 store bought frozen pound cake, thawed</div><div style="color: #20124d;">2 jars Trader Joe's lemon curd</div><div style="color: #20124d;">4 half pink baskets of raspberries</div><div style="color: #20124d;">2 cups heavy whipping cream</div><div style="color: #20124d;">9 Tbsp. Limoncello, an Italian lemon liqueur </div><div style="color: #20124d;">Mint to garnish (I forgot this)</div><div style="color: #20124d;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #20124d;">Combine 2 baskets raspberries and 1/4 cup sugar in bowl. Mash berries coarsely with fork. Let stand until juices form, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes. </div><div style="background-color: transparent; border: medium none; color: #20124d; overflow: hidden; text-align: left; text-decoration: none;"><br />
</div><div style="background-color: transparent; border: medium none; color: black; overflow: hidden; text-align: left; text-decoration: none;"><div style="color: #20124d;">Cut cake crosswise into 8 pieces. Cut each piece into 3 strips. Line bottom of 3-quart trifle bowl with 8 cake strips, trimming to fit. Drizzle with 3 tablespoons Limoncello; spread with 1/3 cup curd, then half of mashed berries. What I love about Easter decorating is that I can use pink throughout our house without one word of complaint from my husband! I'm kidding, he really is a good sport about letting me make the design decisions. But I do love that Easter decor is sweet, innocent and very playful. Take a peak around our house and check out my Easter goodies!<br />

After lots and lots of requests, I have finally listed the printable Keep Calm and Eat Bacon poster for sale in my etsy shoppe. When you purchase the listing, you will receive a jpg file sized at 8x10 AND 11x14 ready to be printed at any photo finisher. I can create this in other colors but a custom color fee will apply. <br />
<br />
If you need some cheering up in your life, this is the poster for you. It's pretty ridiculous, I mean really, it's an ode to a stinky pig! But it's really fun and always brings a smile to my face. Now, it's not so bad cleaning 100 baby bottles by hand. Ha, I wish!<br />
<br />
You can purchase the listing <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/72533941/keep-calm-and-eat-bacon-poster-printable">here</a> for $12. <br />

I've been super excited to share our living room with y'all. (Sorry, that's my leftover Southern accent from living in Pensacola) Aside from our kitchen, this is the room where we spend most of our time and it's definitely one of my favorites in our home. I'll be sharing the detail shots in another post because there are just too many gorgeous pictures by Marla of <a href="http://www.sproutphotographyonline.com/">Sprout Photography </a>to squeeze into one post. I just about died when I looked at these pictures for the first time, her work is amazing!<br />
<br />

It's really amazing what a coat of paint can do! This console used to be stained oak, definitely not my favorite, and now has a cool asian flare with a quick coat of glossy red paint. Would you believe it if I told you my father-in-law picked out that vintage trunk on his own as my Christmas gift a couple years back? I could hardly believe it either, I love it!<br />

We're on vacation right now in Sedona and I needed a good book to fill my free time. My mom lent me Water for Elephants awhile back and it's been sitting on my bedside table waiting for me. It did not disappoint. In fact, it was incredible!<br />
<br />
I won't even try to tell you about it because my words won't do it justice. All I can say is, read it and be prepared to want to ignore your family for a few days. It was that good! Plus, the movie is coming out soon and I'm crossing my fingers it lives up to the book. <br />
<br />
Do you have any recommendations for any other good books?Paiges of Stylehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11589905082136533285noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8909668959091564461.post-7188031532231181642011-04-08T05:00:00.000-07:002011-04-08T08:34:25.433-07:00Tour My Home: Our Kitchen<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04AE3S2qnOoJBqwnqQo71TCKWZMZsu_BQa0MUfUula0RyHPjATeVLDq1U_m8E32Qk1lSTqIqG92hNPjZUbKlCssSA4daxxFgAKjV179Z3k5a-aJa6xNzBRwT-eeo-Q7tMcuGu5e_zblQ/s1600/1216800465_KuWJz-XL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh04AE3S2qnOoJBqwnqQo71TCKWZMZsu_BQa0MUfUula0RyHPjATeVLDq1U_m8E32Qk1lSTqIqG92hNPjZUbKlCssSA4daxxFgAKjV179Z3k5a-aJa6xNzBRwT-eeo-Q7tMcuGu5e_zblQ/s640/1216800465_KuWJz-XL.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
Right off the bat, I have to admit that this room is my least favorite in our home. We are renters of an incredible craftsman home that is almost 100 years old and the biggest downfall of this 100 year old home is the kitchen. Back in the day, kitchens weren't the central hub of the home like they are today so it's a little short on space. Did you happen to notice we are missing a very major appliance? Sadly, we don't have a dishwasher or a garbage disposal which makes doing dishes a lot more of a chore.<br />
<br />
In spite of it's shortcomings, I tried to give our kitchen a little character by adding in some fun artwork and my go to pattern, the stripe. The roman shade was a fun DIY project but you can't tell my landlord that it's hot glued to the wall in a couple spots :)<br />

These two posters are my new favorite additions to the kitchen. I detailed how I made them in <a href="http://www.paigesofstyle.com/2011/03/keep-calm-and-eat-bacon.html">this</a> post. And I'll be adding the Keep Calm and Eat Bacon one to my shoppe soon. After my hubby got home from being out of town for work, he casually mentioned that he thought the saying on this poster was supposed to be "Envision <i>Whirled</i> Peas." Oops, I knew something wasn't quite right. Either way, I still think it's fun.<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">This chalkboard is actually my favorite part of the room. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Overall, when dealing with imperfect rooms like this kitchen, have fun with the details! No matter how I decorate this room, it will <i>never</i> be my dream kitchen. So instead I added some fun details like the gorgeous Anthropologie hooks for hanging towels (on the left side of the first picture), I transferred my dish soap to an olive oil bottle and set it on a silver tray, and I proudly display my pink Kitchenaid mixer. Someday I'll have my Carrera marble countertops and a fancy Viking range, let's just hope it's sooner rather than later!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I'll revisit the kitchen in a couple weeks to share some fun tips for organizing your pantry and maybe even some <i>free</i> labels to get your pantry looking pretty. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">I've been wanting to make mini pies in a mason jar for quite a while. And once my Mom informed me that she read pies were the new cupcake, well I just had to jump on the bandwagon. Thanks Mom!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I started making these little guys at 10 o'clock the night before I hosted a recent baby shower. I had grand plans of making my Nana's pie crust recipe from scratch, with a top <i>and</i> a bottom crust but time was not in my favor and plan B was formed. So, I pulled out the frozen Trader Joe's ready made pie crusts (that I had bought in case of emergency) and mixed berries, set them to thawing and made 8 pies in about 15 minutes.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Here's my disclaimer: I am generally a "from scratch" type of baker so don't judge me on using store bought ingredients this time. These were insanely good and I'm a tough critic when it comes to pie crust. I've actually never used a store bought crust before and Trader Joe's did not disappoint, as usual.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Ingredients</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">4 1/2 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen, I used cherries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries)</div><div style="text-align: left;">1/2 cup granulated sugar</div><div style="text-align: left;">3 Tbsp. cornstarch </div><div style="text-align: left;">Zest from 2 lemons</div><div style="text-align: left;">2 Tbsp. unsalted butter plus more for brushing the tops of the pies</div><div style="text-align: left;">Sanding sugar (optional)</div><div style="text-align: left;">2 ready made pie crust, thawed according to package directions </div><div style="text-align: left;">8 wide mouth half pint mason jars (found <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Jarden-Home-Brands-Mouth-Canning/dp/B0000BYD0F">here</a>)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Directions</b></div><div style="text-align: left;">1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">2. Place mixed berries, sugar, cornstarch and lemon zest in a bowl and stir gently until combined. Let sit for 15 minutes if you are using frozen berries. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #20124d; text-align: left;">I'm absolutely crazy about any recipe that is easy to prepare and feeds a crowd. And it has to taste great, that's sort of important too! A few years back, I was lucky enough to catch an episode of Everyday Italian and Giada happened to be making this Tri-Colore Orzo Salad. Since that day, it has become my go-to recipe for baby and bridal showers, summer dinners and picnics. I love that you can make this fresh and healthy salad without breaking out the cutting board and knife, literally you don't have to do <i>any </i>chopping. Here's the recipe:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #20124d; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #20124d; text-align: left;"><b>Tri-Colore Orzo Salad </b>(recipe by Giada De Laurentiis)<b><br />
</b></div><ul style="color: #20124d;"><li class="ingredient">1 pound orzo pasta </li>
<li class="ingredient">3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus 1/4 cup </li>
<li class="ingredient">2 cups fresh arugula (about 3 ounces) </li>
<li class="ingredient">3/4 cup crumbled feta cheese </li>
<li class="ingredient">1/2 cup dried cranberries (Giada uses cherries but I always use cranberries) </li>
<li class="ingredient">12 fresh basil leaves, torn </li>
<li class="ingredient">1/4 cup toasted pine nuts </li>
<li class="ingredient">3 tablespoons lemon juice </li>
<li class="ingredient">1 1/2 teaspoon salt </li>
<li class="ingredient">1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper</li>
</ul><div style="color: #20124d;"><b>Directions</b></div><div style="color: #20124d;"> Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain pasta and put the pasta on a large cookie sheet. Drizzle the pasta with 3 tablespoons olive oil, toss, spread out, and set aside to cool. </div><div class="instructions"> <div style="color: #20124d;"> </div><div style="color: #20124d;">Once the orzo is cool, transfer to a large serving bowl. Add the remaining ingredients and toss gently to combine. Serves 4 to 6.</div><div style="color: #20124d;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #20124d;">Notes:</div><div style="color: #20124d;">1. If you would like to make this a more substantial dish, add roasted chicken or shrimp to the recipe. </div><span style="color: #20124d;">2. I usually make this the night before my event. Don't add the basil and arugula until the day of your party. Also, I generally have to add more lemon juice the morning of the party to add brightness. </span><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: left;">There are a couple of things that I want to point out about why I love these inspiration boards so much. First, the pieces that Joni selects are not crazy expensive or at least there are always some key pieces that are reasonably priced. I really don't think you have to have tons of money to have a great looking home. Always remember that money doesn't buy good taste so I think the opposite hold true as well. Secondly, none of these rooms feel "babyish." I tend to design nurseries that will grow with the child. For most of us, redesigning a room when we have two year olds won't be an option, so why not just start a little more grown up? And third, if you go and check out the sources, you'll see that most of the dressers she selects are from etsy. I guess I need to spend some more time looking for furniture there, not that I need one more thing to drool over on etsy!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Last but certainly <i>not</i> least, Joni is offering a free download of the darling poster below. So, she's saying it's okay to have a messy house, right?</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

I'm starting to work on Quinne's first birthday party, which is in May, and thought it would be fun to take a trip down Memory Lane and look at Charley's first birthday party. It's hard to imagine that this was over a year ago, Charley looks so darling and little and sweet. Not that she isn't sweet now, but she's two and we all know what that means.<br />
<br />
My party skills have come a looong way since this party but there are still so many fun details. I made every single thing myself, including all of the desserts, labels and food. This was my first project that I designed the party printables for and I'd like to think they've improved a lot since then. Nevertheless, this was a really special party in honor of Miss Charley. Enjoy the beautiful photos by Mariah of <a href="http://mbaddasphotos.blogspot.com/">Mariah Baddas Photography</a>. <br />
